inspired by SouleMama:

“{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.”

A few pictures from this afternoon when Emma was napping:

Also, there’s a woman that writes a blog that I follow who wrote a good – and really long – post the other day about parenting. Here’s a snippet:

“Fear based parenting … is when parents motivate their children to do what is “right” out of fear. Just plain fear. …
Fear is sin. I do not want to parent my children based on my fears.
I do not want to raise fearful children either. I believe if we parent this way we can hinder our children from understanding who God is.

There are a few different types of fear based parenting possibly?
-parenting according to what we FEAR others will think of us.
-parenting where we actually plant FEAR in the hearts of our children [ultimately not trusting the Lord].
-over protecting out of FEAR.
-motivating our children to behave the way we want them to out of FEAR of us, or fear of hell, or fear of punishment.

I think fear based parenting is something that can easily sneak into our relating to our children without even realizing it.”

There’s a lot more too, just her recent thoughts on being a godly mother.

Emma will be our little baby for only a little while.
Soon – too soon it seems sometimes – she will have to share our attention with another baby and be the big sister, no longer the center of everything. She is growing and learning so very quickly. So many “big” milestones such as her first birthday, first steps and first words, are just around the corner and our little Emma Grace is so ready for them.
For now, though, she is still our baby, and I am treasuring the moments. Treasuring the moments when it is just her and me at home during the days, treasuring being able to focus on her, being undistracted and able to notice and celebrate her little achievements. Treasuring our baby girl.

this afternoon

in the midst of all the ice and snow I find myself yearning after a yard and a garden of my own.
One of the things I used to do each year in California was, after Christmas and all the bustle that came along with it was over, head out into the yard to prune back the verdure that was ever trying to take over Dad and Mom’s house. Here, though, nothing grows in the winter. Except for the occasional snow drift that is.

christmas 2009, originally uploaded by Lizi Beth.

isn’t it wonderful that on the darkest day of the year, December 21, the candles and lights shine the brightest?
it’s something to ponder in relation to other aspects of life, too………….

I love that Christmas, the day we celebrate the Light of the World being come to earth, directly follows the darkest day of the year. Somehow it seems to be full of meaning to me.
